Shou sugi ban shelves

Since the MTG:Arena fever has currently left my body, I’m currently working on fixing up the office. The long-term plan is to have a more zen area to work in, hopefully organized and clutter free. While some aspects of the office are very much in-line with my long-term objectives others, I’m afraid are not . We recently purchased a credenza to go behind my wife’s desk. We both love the credenza and it was ~$1400 cheaper than the credenza I was previously considering. While the credenza is fantastic, we are now in dire need of shelving space since I moved the two bookcases that formerly occupied the footprint where the credenza now sits.

Enter shou sugi ban…

I first heard about this technique while watching Fixer Upper with my wife, Chip was using a blow torch to burn some wood for the project they were working on. After Googling for the name and rediscovering shou sugi ban, I proceeded to watch tons of youtube videos on the subject. The videos by Inspire Woodcraft encouraged me to give it a try.

I hope to post some pictures and or videos about the project and results, but we’ll see what time allows or to what extent I’m willing to put in the effort.
